Jana Nayagan Claims No. 1 Spot at Malaysian Cinemas Following RM3 Million Advance Sales

The Tamil-language blockbuster "Jana Nayagan," starring Thalapathy Vijay in his farewell feature film before transitioning fully into his role as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has taken the Malaysian box office by storm. Released on July 23, 2026, across 134 cinemas nationwide, the highly anticipated film made an incredibly strong start. It grossed RM3 million in advance ticket sales alone, marking one of the largest releases in Malaysia for a Tamil-language production.
In its opening weekend, the film's performance was nothing short of dominant, allowing "Jana Nayagan" to claim the coveted No. 1 spot at the local box office. The action-thriller successfully toppled major Hollywood hits to secure its position, outperforming popular titles such as The Odyssey, Minions & Monsters, and Moana as moviegoers flocked to see Vijay on the big screen one last time.
The overwhelming response highlights the enduring popularity of Vijay among Malaysian audiences. Enthusiasm for the film was heavily fueled by a massive mega audio launch event held in December 2025 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium. The concert attracted up to 85,000 fans and even earned a place in the Malaysia Book of Records, setting a historic precedent for a Tamil film audio launch outside of India.
To celebrate the highly anticipated premiere, the Malaysian distributor, Malik Streams Corporation, hosted an exclusive special screening at TGV Cinemas, Pavilion Bukit Jalil, attended by over 1,200 guests. Directed by H. Vinoth and featuring a star-studded cast alongside Vijay, including Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol, the success of "Jana Nayagan" cements Vijay's legacy as a cinematic icon while underscoring the deep entertainment ties between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu.
