The honor (or disgrace) brought by the university entrance exam is the collective memory of all Taiwanese students. The year is 1997. To pursue education of better quality, Ai is forced by her mother to enroll in the night school at First Girls’ High, a “special” system of education in Taiwan. However, night school students are always considered less capable than their day school counterparts, and Ai thus has a strong sense of inferiority. After some time, Ai becomes good friends with her day school “deskmate” Min. The two even begin to exchange uniforms to skip class, and also fall in love with the same boy, Lu Ke, who attends a gifted class at an all-boy high school. At first, Ai chooses to get into day school uniform just to skip classes. However, the advantages brought by this outfit gradually become toxic and Ai finds it so difficult to let go and give up the self-complacency, and from there, things start to get out of control.

To get closer to Lu Ke, Ai pretends to be a day school student without Min knowing because the fake identity makes her feel good enough for the boy. Living through the sensitivity and mixed emotions unique to adolescence, Ai experiences her bittersweet coming-of-age as she deals with issues about friendship, romance, and her own family.
