Leila, a beautiful model, is brutally murdered in her locked upscale apartment. One of five men known to her, each with a motive to see her dead, has managed to get in on the night of her death. Unravelling its complexity is no mean task and the person entrusted to do it is Sandhya, a rookie cop with matchless academic credentials. With little to no field experience, Sandhya is coaxed by her superior to involve Vinayak, her mentor and a top class detective, who quit active field work after a personal tragedy. As the case intensifies, Vinayak eventually manages to unravel a diabolical plot surrounding Leila’s death and finds a key evidence connected to it. Wrapping his mind around the new found clue, he penetrates a very clever alibi to reveal the killer. Kolai, besides being an edge-of-a-seat thriller, is also interlaced with emotional undertones that explores Vinayak’s relationship with his daughter.
