College student Ken Kaneki, a half-ghoul and half-human, shelters himself at Anteiku Cafe after model Margaret was killed by murderous ghoul Shuu Tsukiyama. He grows closer to the other ghouls and is secretly training his powers in order to protect his new home from anti-ghoul forces. His training is put to the test when Shuu appears at the cafe looking for a half-ghoul to eat.
